Sutherland
The county of Sutherland contains some of the finest scenery in Scotland, particularly in the old parishes of Assynt, Eddrachillis (from the Gaelic ‘Eadar Dà Chaolas’ – ‘between two kyles’, i.e. between the narrows of Laxford and Kylesku), Durness and Tongue. It covers an area of more than 2,000 square miles (> 5,000 square kilometres), but its population is not much more than 6,000.
