Woodlands
Much of Scotland has been denuded of its native woodland, but some fine examples of remnant Caledonian pinewood remain, for instance in Glen Affric and Torridon in the west, and in Speyside and Deeside in the east.
Areas of birchwood are more widespread. For a few weeks in autumn each year, these are transformed into truly magical places.
